It’s safe to say, as a mum of two daughters, that I am more than qualified to have my say in Peppa Pig episodes.
Peppa gets a surprisingly bad rap in the parenting community. People love to critique her attitude or moan about the puddle-jumping, but honestly? I think she is an absolute crack-up. The writers pack in so many subtle, low-key hilarious jokes that fly right over the kids’ heads but leave me laughing out loud. If you pay attention, it’s absolute comedy gold.
Here are my top 5 funniest Peppa Pig episodes that I think will make you laugh too:
#5: The New House (Season 4, Episode 2)
There’s a brilliant recurring joke throughout the series where Mr. Wolf references the Big Bad Wolf from The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. So it’s a total laugh when Mr. Wolf examines Daddy Pig’s house (as dads do) and asks what it’s made out of. Daddy Pig doesn’t miss a beat: “It’s made of bricks, don’t even think about it!”
#4: Night Animals (Season 4, Episode 35)
In Night Animals, Peppa and George stay up late at Granny and Grandpa Pig’s house to hunt for nocturnal critters. While they’re out near the chicken coop, Mr. Fox strolls past and casually calls out, “Hola, Grandpa Pig, putting your chickens to bed, are you?” Grandpa Pig is quick to reply: “Oh yes. Nice and cozy in the henhouse.” — implying that Mr. Fox shouldn’t even think about it either.
#3: Miss Rabbit’s Taxi (Season 5, Episode 3)
Miss Rabbit takes Peppa and the family in her taxi to Granny and Grandpa Pig’s house to drop off their shopping. While Miss Rabbit is chatting away, you get a quick glimpse of her metre running. The camera cuts away to the backseat for just a few seconds, flicks back to the dashboard, and the price on her metre has literally tripled! Anyone who has ever been in a metred fare can relate to that pain.
#2: Desert Island (Season 4, Episode 28)
Grampy Rabbit, Grandpa Pig, and Grandad Dog head off to sail the seas when their ship sinks and they find themselves stranded on a deserted island. “Anyone else miss cheese?” declares Grampy Rabbit, after hilariously scoffing down their only source of food. He then adds, “I’m going to draw a line in the sand every time I think of cheese.” By the time they’re rescued a few moments later, he has over 60 lines drawn in the sand in front of him. Honestly, so relatable.
#1: Whistling (Season 3, Episode 28)
Peppa tries to learn how to whistle after she realizes that seemingly everyone except her can do it. She figures her best friend Suzy Sheep probably won’t be able to whistle either, so she rings her up to check. At first, Suzy doesn’t think she can, but gives it a go and pulls off an absolute beauty of a whistle right into the phone. Shocked, Peppa simply hangs up without saying a single word and freezes wide-eyed for a couple of seconds. It gets me every single time!
These five episodes are just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many of these little treasures hidden throughout the series, and it’s harmless fun. My toddler can 100% continue to watch Peppa Pig in our house!
